Turning a Challenge Into Opportunity With OCEDC's Support
Almond & Berry - Gluten Free Bakery When my daughter was four years old, she was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. Celiac is an autoimmune disease where the body attacks the intestines when exposed to gluten. We quickly learned “just eating gluten free” was way more complex than we thought! After travelling around the country, we kept coming across the same problem- Gluten free is hard to find! Even when we did find options, it was so limited and had a high potential for cross-contamination. Anita, my mom, started baking gluten-free items for Kate, and our whole family loved them! Then we started selling at our local Farmer’s Market, and people were coming from hours away to buy our gluten-free baked goods.
This started our dream to build a bakery where anyone who is gluten-free due to health or dietary needs can go and not worry about what they can eat safely.
We’re so incredibly grateful to Oneida County Economic Development for helping make our dream a reality. With their support through a startup loan, we were able to open Almond & Berry, our dedicated gluten-free bakery and juice/smoothie bar right here in Rhinelander, WI. From day one, they were fantastic to work with providing support, professionalism, and a genuine invested interest in our success. Starting a new business was overwhelming and scary, but OCEDC made the process much smoother by guiding us through each step and offering resources beyond just financing.
